Shale Reservoir Heterogeneity: A Case Study of Organic-Rich Longmaxi Shale in Southern Sichuan, China

چکیده
Shale reservoir heterogeneity is strong, which seriously affects shale gas evaluation and reserves estimation. The Longmaxi Formation of the Luzhou block in southern Sichuan was taken as an example to characterize pore distribution over full scale using micro-computed tomography (CT), focusing on ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM) small-angle neutron scattering (SANS); further, explored quantitatively within different scales. results show that micropores are dominated by microfractures mainly developed along bedding direction associated with organic matter, contributing 1.24% porosity. nanopores more developed, 3.57–4.72% porosity have strong locally at microscale, but characteristics lateral homogeneity vertical macroscale. In same layer, difference only 0.1% for sheet samples 2 cm adjacent each other. Therefore, core experiments parallel needed comparison, should be position. This paper explores extent from macro micro, has important significance accurately characterizing further carrying out estimation reserves.

Organoporosity Evaluation of Shale: A Case Study of the Lower Silurian Longmaxi Shale in Southeast Chongqing, China
The organopores play an important role in determining total volume of hydrocarbons in shale gas reservoir. The Lower Silurian Longmaxi Shale in southeast Chongqing was selected as a case to confirm the contribution of organopores (microscale and nanoscale pores within organic matters in shale) formed by hydrocarbon generation to total volume of hydrocarbons in shale gas reservoir. Using the mat...
متن کاملMethodology of organic-rich shale lithofacies identification and prediction: A case study from Marcellus Shale in the Appalachian basin
The success of shale gas in North America has attracted increased interest in “unconventional” reservoirs. Two critical factors for shale-gas reservoirs are units amenable to hydrologic fracture stimulation and sufficient natural gas content. The effectiveness of hydrologic fracture stimulation is influenced by rock geomechanical properties, which are related to rock mineralogy. The natural gas...
متن کاملRock physics characterization of shale reservoirs: a case study
Unconventional resources are typically very complex to model, and the production from this type of reservoirs is influenced by such complexity in their microstructure. This microstructure complexity is normally reflected in their geophysical response, and makes them more difficult to interpret. Rock physics play an important role to resolve such complexity by integrating different subsurface di...
متن کاملReview of Well Logs and Petrophysical Approaches for Shale Gas in Sichuan Basin, China
China has vast reserves of shale gas. Currently, shale gas is one of the focuses of the unconventional reservoir. Well logs play an import role in shale gas production, and it is the bridge connecting geology, geophysics and petroleum engineering. In the exploration stage, well logs are used to identify lithology, evaluate the parameters of mineral types and compositions, total organic carbon (...
